Code of Conduct for Softball Players, Parents, and Coaches
- Behavioral Expectations:
- All players, parents, and coaches must maintain emotional control at all times.
- Unsportsmanlike conduct, abusive language, or disrespect towards coaches, players, or umpires will not be tolerated. Offenders will be asked to leave.
- Respect for Coaches and Officials:
- Coaches and officials are to be respected at all times. Only the head coach may address the umpire directly. Please refrain from speaking to the umpire.
- Parental Guidelines:
- Parents are not to criticize coaches.
- Playing time will be determined solely by the coach; parents have no say in playing time decisions.
- Discussions about a child’s performance or role on the team should occur privately with the coach.
- Supportive Spectatorship:
- Parents should encourage all players from both teams. Cheer for your child positively; refrain from shouting instructions during the game.
- Attendance and Punctuality:
- Players must arrive on time for practices and games to allow for proper warm-up.
- Practice sessions will end punctually; please pick up your child promptly. Arrive 10 minutes early for any announcements.
- Communication and Commitment:
- Players must inform their coach in advance if they will be late or absent from a practice or game.
- Dugout Etiquette:
- Players must remain in the dugout area during games. No food or cell phones are allowed.
- Parents are not permitted to enter the dugout area.
- Coach’s Authority:
- Players must listen to and obey all instructions given by the coach.
- Team Unity and Positive Attitude:
- All players will warm up together. Team spirit must be maintained with positive remarks towards teammates.
- Always hustle and maintain a positive attitude. Replace “I can’t” with “I’ll try.”
- Learning Environment:
- Players are here to learn and should expect constructive criticism as a part of their development.
- Coaching and learning continue throughout games; the field is our classroom.
- Safety and Health:
- Players must report all injuries to their coach immediately.
- Game Communication:
- If you do not receive a text message from the coach, assume the game is on as scheduled, even in inclement weather.
