Code of Conduct for Softball Players, Parents, and Coaches

  • Behavioral Expectations:
    • All players, parents, and coaches must maintain emotional control at all times.
    • Unsportsmanlike conduct, abusive language, or disrespect towards coaches, players, or umpires will not be tolerated. Offenders will be asked to leave.
  •  Respect for Coaches and Officials:
    • Coaches and officials are to be respected at all times. Only the head coach may address the umpire directly. Please refrain from speaking to the umpire.
  • Parental Guidelines:
    • Parents are not to criticize coaches.
    • Playing time will be determined solely by the coach; parents have no say in playing time decisions.
    • Discussions about a child’s performance or role on the team should occur privately with the coach.
  • Supportive Spectatorship:
    • Parents should encourage all players from both teams. Cheer for your child positively; refrain from shouting instructions during the game.
  • Attendance and Punctuality:
    • Players must arrive on time for practices and games to allow for proper warm-up.
    • Practice sessions will end punctually; please pick up your child promptly. Arrive 10 minutes early for any announcements.
  • Communication and Commitment:
    • Players must inform their coach in advance if they will be late or absent from a practice or game.
  • Dugout Etiquette:
    • Players must remain in the dugout area during games. No food or cell phones are allowed.
    • Parents are not permitted to enter the dugout area.
  • Coach’s Authority:
    • Players must listen to and obey all instructions given by the coach.
  • Team Unity and Positive Attitude:
    • All players will warm up together. Team spirit must be maintained with positive remarks towards teammates.
    • Always hustle and maintain a positive attitude. Replace “I can’t” with “I’ll try.”
  • Learning Environment:
    • Players are here to learn and should expect constructive criticism as a part of their development.
    • Coaching and learning continue throughout games; the field is our classroom.
  • Safety and Health:
    • Players must report all injuries to their coach immediately.
  • Game Communication:
    • If you do not receive a text message from the coach, assume the game is on as scheduled, even in inclement weather.
